“Friendship is the golden thread that ties the heart of all the world.” – John Evelyn
“Okay, now think of one word that defines what you bring to your friendships, and pick a colour that feels like it.”
That was the first thing Sahiba, our Director of Communications & PR, said as we gathered around tables covered in blank sheets, and colours. Music played softly in the background, and the energy felt light and joyous.
Just like that, Friendship Day at Synexc had begun, not with a bang, but with splash of colours.
At Synexc, we believe culture is not built overnight. It grows in the quiet moments, shared laughter, creative expression, and thoughtful pauses.
The kind that makes you feel deeply connected to the people you work with. And on this Friendship Day, that belief came alive in the most colorful, musical, and heartfelt way possible.
The Activity That Turned Words into Colours and Feelings into Art
Sahiba began with a simple but powerful prompt:
“Think about one word, just one, that describes what you bring into a friendship. Is it loyalty? Availability? Compassion? Joy? Now, think about a colour that best represents that emotion.”
The team went still, lost in thought. Some wrote “comfort” and paired it with a deep, calm blue. Others thought of “spontaneity” with bright yellow. Words like “presence,” “support,” “kindness,” and “laughter” filled the room. Everyone had something personal to offer, and every word had a hue.
Then came the twist.
“Now, let the music guide you. Don’t think. Just draw.”
We all began sketching freely on our sheets using that one colour we chose. Abstract swirls, waves, dots, zigzags. It was like watching each personality unfold in real time.
But just 30 seconds in, we were supposed to pass your sheet to the person next to you.
And so began the most beautiful cycle of co-creation. With each round, we added a piece of ourselves to someone else’s canvas, using just that one colour. The music kept us moving, the energy was flowing, and the paper kept rotating, an unspoken metaphor for how friendships evolve.
The Canvas of Shared Emotions: The Story the Colors Told
After several rounds, each one of us received our original sheet back, which was now transformed. It was now layered with perspectives, touches, and intentions from our peers.
Sahiba asked softly,
“What do you feel looking at your sheet now?”
A moment of silence followed. Then one voice said,
“I feel like my drawing is complete. Like, others could understand what I was trying to say.”
Another said,
“I didn’t know where it was going, but now it looks exactly like how I feel about my friends.”
That’s when Sahiba smiled and said something we’ll all remember:
“This is the whole point. We often exchange the same energy with our friends, even without saying much. It’s a dance of emotions, and sometimes, others fill in what we couldn’t express.”
We looked around the room. And in those drawings, there wasn’t just colour but a connection.
From Paintbrushes to Dance Moves: When Expression Took Center Stage
Synexc’s friendships celebration had something even more fun planned for us, which was a quirky, lively Friendship Step Chain.
Here’s how it worked:
- One person created a random dance move.
- The next person would observe, repeat it, and then add their own.
- This chain continued until the final person performed the full sequence.
And let us tell you, the result was HILARIOUS. A cocktail of high-fives, shoulder pops, weird twists, and some completely unintentional yet iconic moves. What started as one step became a 10-step dance saga of pure joy and improvisation.
As we cheered each other on, bursting into laughter at every unexpected twist in the choreography, it was clear, fun is contagious, and friends are the best audience.
Sahiba’s Final Words: The Reminder We All Needed
As the energy settled and we caught our breath, Sahiba closed the celebration with a note of wisdom, the kind that lands gently on your heart:
“It’s okay to hustle every day. But every once in a while, pause. Laugh. Create. Dance. Be silly. Because friends aren’t just a support system, they’re a reflection of who we are when we’re most alive.”
She looked at us, and we all knew she was right. That hour we spent wasn’t just a break from work, but it was a return to something essential. Something that gets buried under deadlines and to-do lists: the joy of being human together.
What Friendship Means at Synexc
At Synexc, culture is the rhythm of how we show up for each other, every single day.
Here, friendship goes far beyond birthday wishes or reaction emojis on Slack.
It lives in the little things; the unseen, the unspoken, and the unexpectedly beautiful:
- Noticing when someone’s energy feels a little off.
- Offering help before it’s asked for.
- Cheering for the small wins like they’re big ones.
- Swapping playlists because music says what words can’t.
- Bursting into laughter between meetings that run too long.
- Building ideas, memories, and meaning, side by side.
Whether it’s through a splash of paint, a dance step, or a late-afternoon coffee conversation, we believe friendships at work don’t just make the day better,
they make us better.
Because when people feel connected, they don’t just survive the workday
they thrive in it. Together.
On this Friendship Day, we didn’t just celebrate a bond, we experienced it.
We felt the silence being filled with understanding. We saw words turn into colours. We moved in sync, danced with joy, and drew without rules.
And in that hour, we remembered: Work is what we do, but friendship is what makes it worth it.
